Chair Yoga

Chair yoga is the ideal way for people who have difficulty getting up and down from the floor to experience yoga.  It is also perfect for anyone who spends a lot of time sitting at a desk and doing creative work.  Yoga is so much more than a fitness program for your body.  It is a fitness program for your mind and spirit as well.  Yoga allows for one to be more focused, aware, compassionate and connected.  In this class, we will learn to quiet our minds and strengthen our body as we practice different poses and breathing techniques.  All of our work will be done either seated or using the chair or wall as a prop while standing.  Balance work will be included in each session.

Wednesday, 9-10 AM, Kristi, Oxford

Power Yoga is an all encompassing form of yoga enhancing strength, power, flexibility, and cardio endurance. Students will learn to connect their breath and movements all while calming the fluctuations of the mind. The room will be heated to allow the muscles, tendons and ligaments to move more freely from pose to pose. The class is based on a traditional Baron Baptiste sequence, incorporating flowing movements, long holds, arm balances, and play.  This challenging class will be sure to leave you feeling detoxed and ready to endure what the world has to offer, on and off your yoga mat. Aerial Yoga – Intro to AERIAL & Level I

Whether you’re a new student or an experienced yogi, this class will increase strength, flexibility and gratify your sense of adventure. Practice aerial yoga to disobey gravity, lengthen your spine and play in a safe exhilarating way.

Aerial yoga expands the benefits of asana practice by using the support of a suspended hip-height hammock, also known as a “silk”. In this class, students will securely explore a practice of both elevation and foundation to increase flexibility, strength and improve physical alignment. Enjoy the ease of inversions and healthier backbends while stimulating your mind and adding a little enthusiasm to your day.

Intro to Aerial class is required before registration access is granted to Level I classes.  If you have practiced with another studio, just email us and we will clear you for registration.  Level I access is permitted after students have demonstrated understanding of fabric manipulation, “flip-out” and sacrum/belt wrap techniques.

Yoga ROPE Wall

Did you know that bats and sloths are the only two mammals in the animal kingdom that don’t get arthritis? The one thing they both uniquely have in common is that they spend much of their lives hanging upside down. Because of this their joints escape the typical wear and tear that other creatures experience, and they suffer from less joint degeneration as a result.

The strap wall is yoga’s answer to achieving some of the same healthful benefits. The straps work by using gravity as a natural form of resistance, causing the body to open much further than in regular yoga practice. Like the bats and sloths hanging upside down, this releases tension from the joints and deeply stretches the entire muscular-skeletal body. Strap poses are especially beneficial for spine health through use of traction to relieve pressure from compressed vertebral discs. They can also be used to create deep opening in the body, which nourishes the organs, soothes the nerves, and quiets the mind.
